B week ~ library on Tuesday
the week before the
break in kindergarten …
The 2 day week before the holiday break was filled with fun and
excitement – and even some learning J. We put
the finishing touches on our parent gifts – each was so unique and individual,
a real representation of your child…I hope it always reminds you of when your
son or daughter was SO very small ! We began the week with Roger ( one of our
bus drivers) reading ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas to the kids – he always
does such a great job engaging them throughout the story with props and humor.
We met with our buddies and made a fun holiday project. We had Reindeer Day –
we made our reindeer gift bags, reindeer food ( hope you remembered to sprinkle
it on your lawn or front steps on Christmas eve…). We had a great classroom
party on Monday (thank you thank you to Tara and Adriana’s moms and everyone
who was able to come and/or donate snacks to the party. On Tuesday we rode the
Polar Express and had hot chocolate and cookies … what a week ! All along we
wrote and read and counted… each activity had multiple opportunities for
‘hidden’ learning (my favorite kind!) .
Thank you so much for the
wonderful gift card, gifts and cards from the kids for the holidays. I really
appreciate your generosity and thoughtfulness during such a busy time of year.
I truly enjoy teaching your children and all of the teachers in our classroom
look forward to their stories, enthusiasm and happy faces each day !
This week in kindergarten…
Back to work ! The kids
will begin unit 3 week 2 in our reading series – and we will spend this week
‘re acquainting’ ourselves with our classroom
routines and expectations throughout the day. As we begin the new month
we will change seats at tables and assign new jobs in the classroom too J. Please look to the focus
wall to see specific skills this week and as part of your child’s homework
sheet this week a complete list of sight words will be sent home ( so you can
make sure you are covering the same words at home).
We will also begin a take home reader each week for your child to practice reading. It will be a book reviewed during reading group instruction. Each book will come home in a reader’s bag and please take care of the book and follow the directions that accompany the book in the bag. Thanks.
In math we will begin module 3 – measurement as well as ordinal
numbers. We will also review numeral writing to make sure we are practicing
correct formation as we get into writing numbers through 20.
Snow gear Tuesdays and Thursdays – boots and sneakers EVERYDAY …
Snow gear should be sent to school in a reusable shopping bag (not
plastic bags – they don’t stand up in the hallway) every Tuesday and Thursday but
kids need boots and sneakers EVERYDAY. Remember to label everything (both boots
, both mittens , etc.) thanks. It is a task to dress 22 kindergarten kids and
everything you can do to assist this process is GREATLY appreciated. Also –
when sending sneakers PLEASE send them in untied so they are easier for your
child to get on once they get to school.
Dates to remember :
January 19th – Martin Luther King Jr. day – no school
January 30th – professional development for teachers –
no school for students
